Fathers Involvement
As women have begun to further integrate the labor force, a new role for fathers has immerged. Fathers no longer have to be the sole provider or the “bread winner” for their families; they now have more time outside of work to spend with their kids. Father’s should not worry about the role reversal; women actually enjoy work more then men.
Spending more time with their kids is something fathers always say is important to them, In fact, dads view the time spent with their children as a measure of a good father. If this is the case, then why don’t show it. Family time usually comes after business time. Fathers claim they feel shackled by work, leaving them little time with their kids. They also can’t overcome the fact that they no longer have to be provider. They don’t have a role model for the way dads are supposed to act now. Most of their fathers provided the support for the family, but now times have changed. Men need to step up and get more involved in the parental role.
Spending more time at home will benefit the entire family. Fathers that spend more time at home feel more satisfied with life. Many businessmen reply that they year they took off to spend time with their kids was the most satisfying year of their lives. Also, the children need a father’s time. Even it is just for a hour, it could mean the world to them. I remember when my dad took off work, dressed up as Barney, and brought me balloons. I was in preschool at the time, but it obviously made an impact on me because I remembered it. Children also benefit by receiving higher grades, being more emotionally stable, and being less violent when dads have been involved in their lives.
Fathers please take just a little bit of time out of your schedule. The benefits will definitely outweigh the cost of the little extra effort needed to make this happen.
